The Tarkine – An Uncertain Future

From this side of the world, political changes down under have spelt bad news for mother earth- its not just the Australian Governments singular opposition during recent climate talks that led to a organized  walk out of delegates, nor the  coal mega projects planed within and around the Great Barrier Reef. Under  Tony Abbott’s new conservative Government a number of ecologically important areas are coming under serious threat of development including Tasmania’s 430,000 hectare Tarkine region, the largest tract of cool temperate forest in Australia.

56 exploration licenses are currently threatening the region with mining company Venture Minerals plans for an open cut tin mine at Mount Lindsay presently causing most concern.
